"UFO Sighted By Residents In Lewiston"

Several neighbors on Upper Mountain Road near the Niagara power project's reservoir in the Town of Lewiston saw an unidentified flying object Friday night at a low altitude over the resevoir [sic], according to Mrs. Edward R. Webber, 768 Upper Mountain Road.

She said the oval-shaped object, which showed a blinking red light, first was spotted about 8 p.m. and she and others watched it for perhaps 45 minutes. "It acted like a helicopter but I didn't hear anything. It looked for all the world like it was traveling over the rim of the reservoir."

After 45 minutes it was gone, only to reappear later in the evening, about 10 p.m. Fifteen year old Sherry DesPres and her elder sister, Betty Bush, 794 Upper Mountain Road, think it was only 10 or 15 feet above the reservoir when it moved downward and disappeared.

State troopers and sheriff's deputies had no reports on the incident.
